Celebrity Xpedition cruise to Galapagos Islands in 2007

Part of an exhibit for the California Academy of Sciences on the Galapagos. Enigmatic yet poorly understood, many species of these ancient tortoises have been lost to exploitation. Sea farers of old captured these animals live, using them as fresh meat on long voyages leading to the decimation and even loss of some species in the achipelago. This old fellow is happy to be protected in the Charles Darwin reserve.

I am doing an awareness project of some Issues of Ecuador and i decided to do it on the one of kind almost to extinction, Galapagos Tortoises, things i really want to try to give awareness is if they do go into extinction what would happen to the ecosystem, the balance towards other animals and as well as what it could affect Ecuador

For example, you don’t see any Galapagos tortoises anywhere other than the Galapagos Islands. Also, you would think more remote areas would be less diverse but that’s simply not true. Surely a tortoise wouldn’t just go vast distances across land and water(especially since tortoises are land animals) to get to get to the Galapagos Islands. Did Noah ferry animals around the world once the Flood was over or something?
@ chrispy – It seems as though you’re attempting to direct attention away from my question. I don’t believe I’ve said The Great Flood didn’t happen. I’m asking for you to clear this up for me. I’m not implying anything here just asking a valid question.
@ Jamie – Hahaha! The Galopagos tortoise is a completely unique tortoise. You clearly no nothing about zoology.
@ Uncle Thesis – The continents haven’t been completely connected in about 250 million years. The continents were still just too far apart during the Flood.

i also need some information about captive bred galapagos tortoises like what do they eat, can you train them to go to the bathroom

im doing a report about galapagos tortoises and i cant find a reliable source could somebody send me a reliable link to a galapagos tortoise informational website. (please do not send a website that has the paper written)
something a 13-year-old kid could understand
